Greenville News Swarm

Boy, was last Saturday a long and productive day or what? It was moving day for my brother-in-law and I was hauling trailer loads of furniture across town to their new house. A phone call pops up from an Unknown Number. I always love those during May because it's more than likely a Swarm! Sure enough, it was a swarm on a cypress tree near the pool area of nice gated subdivision off of busy Woodruff Road.

The Greenville News had been out to our apiary the day before to film some footage and do an interview of me for the Saturday paper. I hadn't even had time to pick one up yet to find the article and see how it turned out. I met the HOA member who called me and just out of curiosity I asked him how he found us. Front page news today's paper!! Wow! I didn't realize our article was going to be on the front page. That was a pretty proud moment to see the paper he handed me and see my picture on the front page of the local paper holding a frame of honeybees (online article and video here)! How cool is that!

I explained all the usual safety info about swarms. Long story short within a half hour we were watching the swarm orient to my hive setup below and leaving the tree. We enjoyed conducting beekeeper class out at the apiary in the afternoon. Then after dinner I drove back out to pick up the complete swarm. With the new hive back at my apiary and the very busy and exciting day behind me I went to bed and slept like a baby.
